The insight that landed the hardest at ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ฟ๐ผ๐๐ - ๐ฐ๐๐น๐๐๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ถ๐ป๐ด was this:
Our biases shape our conversations long before the conversation begins.
We judge ๐ณ๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ than we ๐๐ป๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ.
We categorize quicker than we connect.
And this plays out with our ๐ฏ๐ผ๐๐๐ฒ๐, ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐บ๐, ๐ฐ๐น๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐, ๐๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐ฟ๐, and even ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฑ๐ผ๐ฟ๐.
So we broke bias down into three simple layers:
โ Outer Layer: clothing, tattoos, food choices โ the surface signals
ย โ Middle Layer: politics, religion, college โ the conditioned filters
ย โ Inner Layer: values, character, virtue โ who a person truly is
When we judge from the outer two layers, we miss the human beneath them.
When we break these layers consciously, conversations become easier, clearer, and far less stressful.
Bias is automatic.
I recently hosted a Cross-Culture Workshop for the Amezech teams โ and the energy in the room was something special.
The conversations were sharp, the participation was wholehearted, and the willingness to learn was refreshing.
Thank you to the ๐๐บ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต team for being such aย ๐ฐ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ผ๐๐, ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ,ย and ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฝ๐น๐ ๐ฒ๐ป๐ด๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ.
ย And a big shoutout to my own team for the flawless coordination and support.

P.S. Which layer do you find yourself judging most often โ the outer, the middle, or the inner?
